About Me
Hi, I'm Sam, a yogini living in Durham, North Carolina. I love practicing yoga, surfing,
exploring new places, and cooking delicious food, especially when any of the
above are spent in the company of good friends. I started doing yoga
in 2008, but really fell in love with the practice in 2012 when I discovered
alignment-based yoga. In 2016, I completed my RYT-200 yoga teacher training with
Sommer and Paul Sobin of Thousand Petals Yoga.
I have been teaching yoga
for the past five years at Duke and local yoga studios and have found an incredible community of students
who find as much joy in the yoga practice as I do. In the yoga practice, we move in all directions and the alignment
of the yoga postures help us move safely and improve strength to support greater mobility. I truly believe alignment-based yoga is
for everyone - whether yoga is your primary form of movement or a compliment to other activities.
Outside of yoga, I have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University and
I started my own medical device / imaging consulting company, Archer Woods Consulting, LLC.
